Track accident involves local team

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A fatal accident involved a local racing team at the NHRA Arizona Nationals.

A woman in the crowd died later than she was hit by debris that flew off a crashing dragster.

Antron Brown was in a race against Troy Buff in the top fuel class Sunday when Brown’s left rear wheel came off. The tire flew into a viewer area where it startled fans and hit a woman.

It all happened moderately quick. The car could have went in any route, said witness Jesus Espinoza. It caught on flames right in front of us and it was something else.

The woman was airlifted to a neighboring hospital where she died.

The NHRA said Brown was not harm. He drives for Brownsburg-based Don Schumacher race.

Racing continued after the mishap but was later postponed due to rain.
