4 hurt as car veers off road 99 in Sodo, crashes on tracks

Four people were taken to the hospital Tuesday night after a crash on Highway 99 South sent one car off the highway and onto the adjacent railroad tracks. Another car was upside down on the street.

Each of the four suffered minor injuries and was taken to Harborview Medical Center, said Seattle flames Department spokeswoman Helen Fitzpatrick, who did not recognize details about the injuries.

Officials closed the southbound lanes of the highway near South Stacy Street, south of Safeco Field and the part of the road known as the Alaskan Way Viaduct. The highway reopened around midnight Wednesday.

The crash occurred at about 10:40 p.m. Both vehicles were totaled after flipping numerous times.

A male driver was alone in the car that left the street. Three men were in the car that remained on the highway, a white Sedan. The driver of that car may have suffered a busted arm.

None of those involved was drinking, police said. Police are investigating the accident's origin.
