Drivers find same crashes and late passes at new Talladega

TALLADEGA, Ala. — More than half the cars in Sunday's Aaron's 499 were either damaged or smashed at Talladega Super speedway.

Drivers, including teammates, were upset with apiece other. The finish was theatrical, with Kevin Harvick waiting until the last 500 yards to pass Jamie McMurray to win by 3 feet.

There were 88 lead changes amongst 29 drivers, both NASCAR records. And it was the first time NASCAR used all three of its green-white-checkered ultimately periods.

The race was supposed to be a testament to NASCAR's return of the rear spoiler and fresh rules that allowed aggressive bump-drafting. The result was another distinctive Talladega race.

It was a lot of amusing for the majority of the race. It was mad at the end, like it always is, said Jeff Gordon, who was involved in two crashes in ultimately.

Talladega is known for huge packs of traffic - and the big wrecks that come with it. There was a 10-car pileup in the center of the race, a five-car accident at the end of directive and a nine-car crash during two of the overtimes. In all cases, poor verdict, not cars or the rules, was to blame. The first crash started when Kyle Busch rammed Johnny Sauter from at the back. The second came later than Mike Bliss ran into Jeff Burton. The third started when Joey Logano's bump Ryan Newman.

Dale Earnhardt Jr., who only trails his belatedly father and Gordon for the most wins at Talladega, said no topic how many changes are made with the rules, Talladega won't change.

It is a lottery. Points racing, racing for a finals, shouldn't be a lottery. These races here are raffle picks, Earnhardt said.

Juan Pablo Montoya had a proposal for anyone who didn't like the action at Talladega - stay house.

If you don't desire to be here, then don't be here, he said later than finishing third. I think its chill, and I think the fans feel affection for it. It [stinks] when you wreck, but the show isn't going to find any better than this.

The subsequently time the same rules package will be used is July 3 at Daytona International Speedway. That track isn't as wide as Talladega and won't permit for the same kind of three-wide, 10-deep packs of traffic.
