The Insurance Institute for Highway security has announced that the 2010 Hyundai Genesis and Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedans have earned Top Safety Pick awards. To get the nod, a car must earn the agency's top score of Good in front, side and rear collide tests, and it must pass a roof-crush strength test and be equipped with electronic steadiness control.
The roof test, which was added for 2010, considerably reduced the number of overall Top Safety Picks, but IIHS is testing more and more vehicles for roof force. The total number of Top Safety Picks is now 33, up from the innovative 27 when the new ratings were announced.
