Malcolm Searles gets six-and-a-half years for car crash while using marked car for individual reasons on duty
A former police officer who killed a grandmother for the duration of a 100mph "joyride" has been jailed for six-and-a-half years.
Malcolm Searles, 24, was driving a patrol car in Bromley on 23 August last year when it hit Sandra Simpson, 61. An IPCC inquiry found that Searles had been using the marked car for own reasons while on duty.
A recording device fitted to the vehicle showed Searles had been driving in excess of 100mph, at times with blue lights broken and sirens sounding. Last month he pleaded guilty at Southwark crown court to causing death by risky driving.
