CEO of Mercedes Benz Turkey says car market will not get better in 2010



The chief executive of Mercedes Benz Turk indicated that car sell would not improve in 2010.

Wolf Dieter Kurz said at a news meeting on 2009 performance of the company that despite the shrinkage in the market and all negative impacts of the universal crisis, Mercedes Benz Turk had succeeded in growing its market share last year.

Our investments in Turkey in 2009 amounted to 35 million euro. We are planning to make new investments in Turkey in 2010. Our investments in Aksaray factory will cover a extended term, he said.

Kurz said that they did not expect an development in the car market in 2010, specially in the first half of the year. If we fail to take some additional safety measures, sales of passengers cars can fall. We need to take a series of measures to prevent shrinkage in the sector this year, he said.

Meanwhile, Mercedes Benz Turk Marketing and Sales Director Suer Sulun said that their sales increased 108 percent in 2009 and reached the uppermost level in its history with 9,700 vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz Turk is the unit of Daimler AG, the world's second-biggest creator of luxury cars.
