LAUNCHED IN 2005, the present generation Mercedes-Benz B-Class is soon to be replaced by an all-new model. These latest spy photos show the 2011 B-Class undergoing cold-weather testing in Europe.
While the model seen here is obviously the five-door hatch, there has been speculation in latest months that Mercedes will look to add coupe and convertible variants to the B-Class line-up.
A report in July last year recommended that Daimler - presently investigating platform-sharing partnership opportunities with a numeral of carmakers - would build the new B-Class on a Toyota-derived platform.
Daimler also confirmed previous this month that it is in ongoing talks with Renault to establish a platform and parts sharing deal, with new reports suggesting the duo are considering developing a rear-wheel drive platform
Mercedes has offered no details on its next generation B-Class but hybrid variants, probably based on the B-Class F-Cell unveiled last August, are expected to feature among the hatch’s power train options.
Other hybrid options include the latest diesel hybrid technology scheduled to feature in the 2011 Mercedes-Benz E300 BlueTEC, and the plug-in hybrid technology previewed in the Vision S500 concept at Frankfurt previous year.
